THE BRAZILIAN DESIGNER BRINGS A SHOT OF COLOR TO THE FALL TENTS
Carlos Miele is one of the reasons why I love Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The Fall doldrums are filled with dark colors and heavy textures. Then, you walk into Miele’s world, and everything is bright and sunny. It’s like a 12-minute mini-break in Sao Paolo.
Where to begin? The velvet was soft and rosy-pink, in tapered pants and then a ruched gown that was so sexy. There was a vivid, orange and brown wrap dress in soft silk, and a bright orange jumpsuit, also done in white, that was sublimely glamorous. The prints may have been playful, but they were always elegant.
Evening wear just belongs to Carlos Miele. A black velvet gown with braided embellishments was sophisticated and beautiful. Another gown popped in royal blue. Even the more muted colors like khaki greens were treated to bright bursts of color.
The best thing, I think, about Miele’s collection, is that you can actually picture yourself in these gowns, and, in truth, they are designed to make all of us look curvy and feminine, no matter our body type.
He celebrates his Brazilian heritage with such joy, and for 12 minutes on one very dreary winter day, you could actually feel the temperature rising in the Lincoln Center Tents.
