THE DESIGN TEAM CONCOCTS AN AMAZING MIX FOR FASHION WEEK
This is the second season Falguni & Shane Peacock have shown at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and they’re destined to become one of the shows everyone wants to see. I don’t think you’d describe their clothes as “wearable” unless you’re really young and really thin, but I don’t think they’d mind my saying that.
Falguni & Shane create a line designed for fantasy, with an eye-popping combination of colors, textures and embellishments that just somehow work. Lace, leather, velvet, beads, feathers, metallics, bold prints in vibrant colors and lots of black combine for a magical collection that was as much art as design.
The sheerest black lace met black velvet and bright royal blue. Prints were covered in black lace overlays. Gold and silver added an extra touch of glamour to an intricately designed black dress or harem pants and red-carpet ready gowns were breathtaking in black with pops of blue and emerald. The colors came not just from the fabrics, but from the plumes of feathers that added texture to some of the looks. A short cocktail dress with metallic, lace and purple feathers combined every one of their textures. It’s this detailing that is the calling card of these two designers, and it always looks beautiful shimmering down the runway.
The look was soft and feminine in one way, and fierce and tribal in another (just check out the very bold eye look). It’s one of the lines I couldn’t ever wear (I mean, where would I go, for one thing?) but I love looking at.
