SISTERS ADD A LITTLE SPARKLE TO FASHION WEEK. ‘Twas the night before Fashion Week, and what better way to rev up the engines than with a fashion show, of sorts. Danielle and Jodie Snyder, the Danni and Jo of Danni Jo took the leap and debuted their Fall 2011 line in a very pretty presentation in a Chelsea event space.
The setting was a series of tableaux, designed to take you inside rustic cabins in the prairie with a décor straight out of a 1920’s penthouse (there was even a kind of a creepy uncle among the young models in their girlie dresses and Danni Jo jewels), matching the inspiration for the line. The sisters, once named to Inc. Magazine’s list of “America’s Coolest Entrepreneurs”, create their rings, necklaces and bracelets out of a variety of metals, oxidized silver, gold and gunmetal, adorned with elements like quartz, crystals, aqua aura and pearls. This time, they added Swarovski Crystals for a little extra shine.
Their passion for jewelry design started when they were very young, when they used their heart surgeon father’s tools to learn wire working. “For this collection, we wanted to tell a story, but really touch back on our different aesthetics”, Danielle told me. They did that with a kind of backwoods bohemian meets big city glam vibe, rough yet elegant. “We were inspired by the frontier, the Wild, Wild West mixed with the totally different world of the shamelessly opulent Roaring ‘20s and a sort of a Great Gatsby vibe,” according to Jodie.
It is a beautiful collection, composed of big, showy pieces but with a kind of delicate feel, perfect for every day wear or evenings out.
Danni Jo has only been going since 2008, but they’ve already acquired a legion of celebrity fans, including Natalie Portman (now Academy Award Winner Natalie Portman), Blake Lively, Sophia Bush, Beyonce, Milla Jovovich and Katy Perry. It’s not cheap (did you think it would be?), but if you’re looking to buy, you’ll find Danni Jo at Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel’s, Intermix, on Net-a-porter or Shopbop, and in the UK at Harvey Nichols.
